Our knowledge of the metabolic/bariatric surgery field and an in-house metabolic surgery library provide a leading edge in research publication and return-on-investment for our colleagues and sponsors. Medwrite-developed peer articles, consensus statements, and abstracts have achieved publication in the core international metabolic surgery and obesity management journals, such as Obesity Surgery (OBSU) and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases (SOARD), as well as in prominent general medical and surgical publications, including the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons (J Am Coll Surg).
Medwrite participated in the development of the 2005 American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Consensus Statement; two Elsevier-published textbooks, “Surgical Management of Obesity” and “Buchwald’s Atlas of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgical Techniques and Procedures,” and an illustrated “History of Operative Procedures for the Management of Obesity: 1950–2000.” We collaborated on the preparation of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) CD-RoM and 18-credit postgraduate course, “A Bariatric Surgery Primer”; in the development of a medical manufacturer’s Patient Education Handbook for implantation of a bariatric device; and in one of SOARD’s first journal supplements prepared as a publication follow-on after a symposium at an International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) Congress.
